Minimum Age Requirements:
• 16 years – Motorcycle/Scooter
• 18 years – Car/Jeep/Van
• 21 years – Minibus/Bus and Heavy Vehicles
Maximum Age Rules:
• For private vehicles (motorcycle, scooter, car/jeep/van), there is no maximum age limit as long as the driver is medically fit and meets the required standards.
• For public transport and heavy vehicles (F/G categories), there is an upper age restriction. Generally, after around 58–60 years, licenses for public buses, minibuses, trucks, and heavy equipment are not renewed or may automatically expire, meaning the driver is not allowed to operate those vehicles.
No. If a candidate fails the written examination, they are not allowed to apply for any driving license category anywhere in Nepal for three (3) months from the date of failure.
If a candidate fails the trial exam, they may reappear after 7 days or as per the rules/notices of the Transport Management (Yatayat) Office.
A maximum of two (2) re-trial attempts is allow
- Day 1: Biometric registration, medical examination, and eye test
- Day 2: Written (theory) exam for new applicants only (Applicants applying for an additional category or those who already hold a valid license do not need to appear for the written exam.)
- Day 3: Trial (practical driving) examination
No. Once the biometric form is filled, reapplication is not allowed for 13–15 days. During this period, the same biometric form remains valid and is used for the process.
A candidate who already holds a driving license for any one category is not required to appear for the written examination when applying for an additional category. However, tractor license holders are required to take the written examination.
